Practice 2
First at reading I have worst score than practice 1, I think that is because cost me concentrate in the activity. But I don't have more than 3 bad answers, so I think that is not so bad. At listening cost me to write the words, because vocabulary is one of my weakness, but when I didn't have to write I only have one bad. Finally, in vocabulary I chose Appliances, Technology and Communications and Travel and Transport. I have good score but cost me appliance, so I have to practice on this. Well, about my speaking skills I think that I'm good (not the best, but I can defend myself) and I can establish a conversation with a person in english, so at basic I can communicate.

I chose an article with the title “Ixcanul
review-a fascinating blend of modernity and ritual. It talks about the movie “Ixcanul”,
of the director Jayro Bustamante. For the journalist, maybe the conflict is
overuse, but the photography of the place, the performances and how it looks
the costumes, makes this a very good film that also teach about other cultures.
This movie is about the life of a Guatemalan family,
which lives of the coffee plantation. The story is especially about Maria, the
daughter of a poor couple; a man who isn’t in a good position at the plantation
and a Mayan woman who doesn’t speak Spanish, but is a perceptive person. Maria’s
family is poor and they betrothed her to Ignacio, a man with a better social
position than them.
The conflict is that Maria isn’t sure to
married Ignacio, because she is thinking about know the world. Well, Maria gets
pregnant of other man, but he goes to United State. Maria’s mother try to make an abortion, but
fails, and the people of the town discovered the entire situation and finally they
chase out the family of the town. Maria one day is bitten buy a snake and Ignacio
helps her and all the people of the town meet to save Maria and the baby. This special
part is the combination of ritual and modernity.
The best of this movie is there shots and also
that after watch it, stays with you.
I chose this article because talks about the
Guatemalan culture, specially the Mayan reality, that many times we didn’t
recognize. Also I can see this movie with an anthropology eye, specially the
combination that mentions the journalist of ritual and modernity.

Philosophy for dumbs
Hello! Today we have to
write about something we are reading at the moment. Truly until five months
ago, I wasn’t very good at readying; I preferred images or movies before than a
book or saw the news before to read a report (well, sometimes I still wanting a
movie before a book). I was very slow to read and it was like impossibly for me
to finish a book. But recently, at the last months I’m trying to read more and obligate
me to finish the books that I start. Well, at first I asked a friend to tell me
something that I can read and not be boring, so she recommended me to read
novels of Hernán Rivera Letelier. I started with “La contadora de películas”
that is really short and then I read two books more of him, I really love it,
but how I’m very slow to read I take my time jajajaja.
Now I’m readying something
very different, but I wanted to started because for me is interesting. Is a book that I bought in
the “Persa Biobio”, it’s a book simply call “Philosophy”, but when I inspect
the book I noticed that was a book make
by a teacher for his students, so is like a class but in a book and has some
draws so I think that maybe can be something not to boring. Well, I bought it
and I notice that was about the basis of the philosophy and explains a lot of
the different areas of philosophy. Now I’m really enjoying it because explains things
that with some teachers of the university doesn’t be so clear, that they didn’t
pass or simply there classes were so boring that I didn’t pay attention. Also
this book is very simply to explains, so makes me be more interesting to read. At
“Persa Biobio” I also bought a book called “Cosmos”, talks about the universe
and it saws very interesting too, so I hope to finish soon and start this
other.

Rincon del Sabor
Hi! Today I’m going to
talk about one of my favourite places in Santiago, this is “El Rincón del Sabor”.
This is a bar located near of Plaza Italia, next of Cine Arte Alameda.
I like this bar because
is really cheap and has a very good atmosphere. I discovered this place in
2011, when I was in the occupation of Casa Central with some friends and we
want to drink some beer, so we went there because was near to Casa Central.
I went to “El Rincon del
Sabor” with all kind of people, sometime I go only with one friend or sometimes
I go with big groups.
I remember one time that
with one of my best friends we finished working and pay us immediately, so we went
there to get drunk and eat a lot of French fries. Was really cool, then a lot
of our friends go there and the evening finished in a very good party.
Well, this year I can’t
go so much, because I’m with a lot of responsibilities in the university and
also my friends are with the thesis and working (they are now adults jajaja),
so we don’t have much time to go, but sometimes we make space in our lives to relax
and remember past times.
The last time that I went
to “El Rincon del Sabor” was in October for the birthday of one friend. We have
a really nice moment and also we finish in a very good party.
I hope to have more time
to enjoy this place with my friends.

Happiness alone
Today I have to write about
happiness. I think that is a difficult issue, because sometimes is hard to
discover things that makes us happy. In my case, truly I in the last months I started
to appreciate happiness and discovered things that makes me happy.
One of the things that make
me very happy is have time for me alone. Also makes me happy be with my friends
and family, but sometimes I need to rest of people and take time to be alone.
For example I like a lot to watch movies or series alone, especially when I’m
very stress and with many preoccupations I make me a little time to watch
something, that relax me a lot and makes me concentrate in the important
things. Also I like to read or listen to music in my bed, both things relax me.
I make these things all the time with people, for example read in the bus or in
the underground, or listen music with friends, but make it alone helps me to
concentrate more and have time to think about what I’m listening or reading.
I think that at the
present, our society makes us have fear to be alone, that always we have to do
things for people or what people wants, a lot of times leaving ourselves for
last. I think that all people must have time for themselves, to discover new
things or simply to relax.

English Practice
Today we have to make some test in
different areas of English. The three areas are reading, listening and
vocabulary. The area where I get best score was reading, I had only few bad. On
listening also I’m good, I think that this is because I listen a lot of English
music, so I’m used to it. My worse area was vocabulary, I have 10 bad answers.
I think that this is because I don’t read so much in English and there a lot of
words that confused me.

Stanley Kubrick
Hi! Today I’m going to talk about my favorite film director, Stanley
Kubrick. I knew Stanley Kubrick when I was 13 years old, with the movie A
Clockwork Orange (he was the film director). That was the first movie that really
excites me and makes me love films. I remember that I saw it 3 times continuous.
Stanley Kubrick was born in 1928 in New York City. He started directing
films in 1951, but before of that he was a photographer in a magazine. He didn’t
study in the university or nothing after school.
In all the Kubrick’s films you can see he’s “photographer eye”, all his
movies are simply gorgeous. With his shots he can put the spectator in unimaginable
places. Apart of the esthetic on his films, the histories trap you and the
scripts are very ingenious. My favorites scripts are of the movies “Full Metal
Jacket” and “Dr. Strangelove (or how i learned to stop worrying and love the
bomb)” , I think I like both ones because they show what dumb the war is, but
in a very particular way, with dialogues that make you question a lot of things.
Well, he died in 1999. But if I could know him I think that I would ask what
films mean to him and also what he imagines when he is making a film.
