Practice 2
First at reading I have worst score than practice 1, I think that is because cost me concentrate in the activity. But I don't have more than 3 bad answers, so I think that is not so bad. At listening cost me to write the words, because vocabulary is one of my weakness, but when I didn't have to write I only have one bad. Finally, in vocabulary I chose Appliances, Technology and Communications and Travel and Transport. I have good score but cost me appliance, so I have to practice on this. Well, about my speaking skills I think that I'm good (not the best, but I can defend myself) and I can establish a conversation with a person in english, so at basic I can communicate.

I chose an article with the title “Ixcanul
review-a fascinating blend of modernity and ritual. It talks about the movie “Ixcanul”,
of the director Jayro Bustamante. For the journalist, maybe the conflict is
overuse, but the photography of the place, the performances and how it looks
the costumes, makes this a very good film that also teach about other cultures.
This movie is about the life of a Guatemalan family,
which lives of the coffee plantation. The story is especially about Maria, the
daughter of a poor couple; a man who isn’t in a good position at the plantation
and a Mayan woman who doesn’t speak Spanish, but is a perceptive person. Maria’s
family is poor and they betrothed her to Ignacio, a man with a better social
position than them.
The conflict is that Maria isn’t sure to
married Ignacio, because she is thinking about know the world. Well, Maria gets
pregnant of other man, but he goes to United State. Maria’s mother try to make an abortion, but
fails, and the people of the town discovered the entire situation and finally they
chase out the family of the town. Maria one day is bitten buy a snake and Ignacio
helps her and all the people of the town meet to save Maria and the baby. This special
part is the combination of ritual and modernity.
The best of this movie is there shots and also
that after watch it, stays with you.
I chose this article because talks about the
Guatemalan culture, specially the Mayan reality, that many times we didn’t
recognize. Also I can see this movie with an anthropology eye, specially the
combination that mentions the journalist of ritual and modernity.
